Stop panicking. All new technologies carry serious risk, often existential. The question is over whether AI is a normal new technology or whether it’s fundamentally different. The current panic is oriented around believing it’s the latter. The actual crisis is political, that we just don’t manage risk, period.

There is hereby declared a general amnesty for everyone who believed the risks of AI are fake hype. The rogue agents are out there hacking stuff and the companies are covering it up. Time to come in from the hype cold and wake up to the threat. @OsseChi said it well, that if it turns out it was truly all hype (it’s not) you haven’t really lost anything. The bubble doesn’t depend on you believing it or not, but to take political action, mass awareness is necessary.
