Hamas killed almost as many people in six hours as the IRA did in 30 years. Over half of IRA victims were uniformed police, military or prison guards. Hamas’ October 7th gesture was explicitly genocidal: children and elderly executed. Also the British colluded with terrorist paramilitaries on the Unionist side. Not exactly winning hearts and minds. IRA eventually decommissioned their weapons after negotiation, no prospect of Hamas ever doing the same.

This is an important point. If the British had responded to IRA attacks on civilians by launching relentless air strikes on Irish civilian neighborhoods, it would have appeared obviously psychopathic and deranged. Yet in Gaza this is considered a reasonable response to terror.
