Yesterday, sitting at a cue to get a coffee in the airport. The young girl in front of me is ordering coffees, sandwiches and water for 4, but the payment on all of her credit cards was declined. I’m looking at her almost crying face, she tries to call someone who’s not picking up… And I decided to help her - I payed her bill. She started to cry and hugged me. Felt good. But that’s not the story. Waiting in the next line to get my order, her friends (all 20y) come back and they all thanked me and wanted to give me back all the coins they had in their pockets. I said it was my pleasure to do something good for someone else. They were all students and Americans, they said, they were robbed in France, during their last days of vacationing in Nice. I told them I’m waiting for my son, who’s a student in America. While I was talking to them, I’m seeing a sticker on their hand luggage - “free palestine”. I took my coffee, we said our goodbyes and while they hugged me again, I told them that I would like to know that “if my son will ever be in a similar situation, I hope someone will help him like a did. Specially because he is Israeli and these days this seems to be a problem”. Silence. No more hugs. Just silence. I left with a smile. Felt better than buying their coffees.
