I think what is shocking to the western world about Netanyahu is that he is willing to fight for his country unapologetically, like a leader from a century ago would do. It's become a faux pas in the ostensibly enlightened west for a leader to say "no, fuck you, you attacked us, so now we're going to win, you're going to lose, and then we're gonna take stuff for our trouble." These are the rules our enemies play by. China, Russia, and much of the Arab world. They count on us not having the stomach for it anymore. Bibi doesn't play that game. He smashed Hamas, wrecked Hezbollah, and kicked Iran's teeth in, even as the Biden administration whined about it every step of the way. The Arabs and Iranians were caught off guard precisely because they thought they could use western media bleeding hearts to limit Israel to a token response after the October 7 massacre. Instead, Iran's little empire is in flames, and its regime humiliated. Netanyahu is basically conducting war the way the Arabs would on Israel if they could. (Except unlike them, he hasn't done a mass genocide like Hamas stated they would do to Jews.) Even those who hate him will have to concede he is a great man of history. And other leaders should learn from him that our empathy should have limits.
