Well put by @TimothyDSnyder: “In Soviet doctrine, nothing the USSR did could be imperialism. If a capitalist state invaded another country, that was imperialism. If the USSR invaded another country, it was the defense of socialism.” Sadly, it’s still is how many in Global South see things. Only replace “defense of socialism” with “Russia’s legitimate interests”.
