When an Israeli hears a Palestinian say “I am a peace activist,” the Israeli assumes that the Palestinian is open to the possibility of living in peace with a Jewish-majority country and ending all claims against it. That is what peace means to Israelis. When a Palestinian hears an Israeli say “I am a peace activist,” the Palestinian assumes that the Israeli is open to the possibility of dissolving Israel. That is what peace means to Palestinians. All Israeli-Palestinian dialogue and reconciliation efforts have failed because of the unbridgeable gaps between “peace activists” on both sides.
