The people who portray themselves as uber-patriots never seem to have a positive word to say about this country. Everything is corrupt and evil. They are convinced they live in a North Korea-like hellscape.

Everyone who rises to the highest level of politics is an unethical monster of some sort of another. We are talking about people responsible for countless war crimes, yet manage to sleep at night. When you vote for President, if you are looking for the "ethical" candidate, you will rarely find him. As the Romans said, "Not everyone can be a Cato." Instead, if you choose to vote, you are inevitably picking between a narrow field of highly compromised people. My decision to support Donald Trump based on practical considerations. ---------- 1. Lawfare cannot be tolerated. If the regime succeeds in taking out Donald Trump either electorally or otherwise, this tool will be used again and again. America will become a banana republic. 2. Neoconservatism must be displaced in the GOP. Trump defeated the Bush dynasty, but then made the mistake of filling his administration with neoconservative, like John Bolton. At the LNC, he indicated that he learned his lesson. He wants libertarians in his cabinet now. We can believe this or not, but I'd rather he seek the support of libertarians than seek reconciliation with the neocons. The dominant ideological coalitions in Republican politics in recent decades have been (1) the Cheney neoconservatives, (2) the Trump MAGA movement, and (3) the @RonPaul libertarians. A coalition between the 2nd and 3rd groups makes it possible to finally displace the neocons in the GOP. 3. Libertarian in the Cabinet Trump did promise a libertarian in his cabinet. I don't know that this looks like exactly, but its a lot more than libertarians have today. And frankly, Trump is influenceable. It is his best and worst quality. When he was surrounded by neocons, he made a lot of bad moves. But when @RandPaul and @TuckerCarlson had his ear, he walked away from a war with Iran. More Ron Paul libertarians in his orbit could actually make a difference in decision-making. 4. Ross Ulbricht deserves to be free — and this is his best chance. When he visited my senate district, Joe Biden completely ignored my request of clemency for @RealRossU. This past week, however, Donald Trump promised to set him free. You can believe that promise or not, but it is a relatively easy one to deliver on. It would costs next to nothing for Donald Trump. Its just signing a piece of paper. The only people he would anger is the deep state that's already trying to destroy him. 5. Libertarians Recommending Pardons Trump also promised to put libertarians in positions to recommend additional pardons and clemency. A lot of good could be done here. ------------ Trump invited libertarians to join his coalition. I think its a good deal. As a libertarian, I would never presume to tell others what to do, but I try to explain myself and my thinking. If you agree with my reasoning, you can do the same. And if not, you are welcome to use your vote however you think best.
