Hello, all. An extremely important post. In the wake of the Israeli embassy closing, there was an aggressive Irish media campaign to deny antisemitism in Ireland. I don’t know how else to describe it other than propaganda-esque. In the wake of being accused of wronging a minority, Ireland did not allow that minority to speak. Our politicians and most reputable television/newspaper outlets spoke about Jews without input from the mainstream Irish Jewish community. They prioritised our country’s image rather than the well-being of a vulnerable minority. A minority that goes back generations and whose outsized contributions to Ireland are woven into the fabric of Irish society. They jumped to pushing an image campaign featuring foreign token voices, instead of amplifying Irish Jewish perspectives. I don’t need to tell you what the reaction online was like. Complete denial of any problem. If you want to know what the Irish Jewish community has been experiencing, please read this article. It is a profound shame on our country—and example in and of itself of institutional antisemitism—that the Jewish community was not offered a platform to speak in an Irish newspaper on an issue that directly affects them. A UK publication provided that offer. Thank you @Telegraph for giving the Irish Jewish community the platform that Irish outlets shamefully did not offer. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/12/22/chief-rabbi-irish-leaders-contributed-hatred-against-jews/
