Traditionally, "posthumanism" referred to throwing humans out entirely in favor of come what may and "transhumanism" referred to the middle path between that and primitivism, where the self-change inherent to humans is continuous -- rather than a discontinuous replacement.

There are familiar positive forms of transhumanism, but an AI-driven machine ecology would presumably not take the transcendence of the human as its objective.
