They also say they want to become diplomats but refuse to work as laborers, nurses or daycare workers — the fields actually in demand. "No, I don’t have a willingness. We did not work as manual laborers in our homeland." "We have no experience and no desire. We have so much to do at home. We still need time to spend with our children." This Afghan man brought his family to the country and already has a 4-bedroom apartment. The family took in €80,000 from taxpayers over the course of two years. While they get to enjoy time alone with their children, millions of Germans are struggling to get by working full-time. A new government report indicates that migrants cost the German state well over €40 billion in 2025 for housing, welfare, and integration courses.
