After Cologne, Milan. A group of young Belgian women spent New Year’s Eve in the square in front of the Dome in Milan, which was mostly full of non-Italians waving Iraq, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates flags. The girls were deliberately separated, encircled, and sexually groped under and over their clothes by the men. The assault lasted 10 minutes. An Italian man, whose own wife was also sexually assaulted by the group of men, came to their rescue. When they went to the police, they were told there’s nothing can be done. A female police officer cried out of helplessness about the situation. At the hotel, they were told by staff that it’s the same situation every year. Nothing about the incident has been reported in the press, said one victim called Laura, « but it’s recorded on our bodies. And in our minds for the rest of our lives. »

Après Cologne il y a quelques années, c’est Milan qui prend un air sinistre de place Tahrir. Et toujours cette omerta payée par les femmes.
