#France RSF extends its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Jean-François Leroy, following the announcement of the death of the founder of the Visa pour l’Image festival. A tireless champion of photojournalism, he turned Visa pour l’Image into a major free public gathering for photography lovers and professionals alike. Since 1989, the festival has supported and showcased the work of generations of photographers, including Françoise Demulder, Alexandra Boulat, Laurent Van der Stockt, Rémi Ochlik, Véronique de Viguerie and Guillaume Herbaut. Jean-François Leroy brought the world’s conflicts into view tirelessly and without compromise, driven by the conviction that opening people’s eyes to the realities of our time was a necessity. We share this belief, which culminated in our 2025 collaboration on RSF’s 40th-anniversary exhibition, “Shooting the World of Tomorrow,” which he chose to feature in the festival. Today, the photojournalism community has lost one of its most passionate advocates.
