Two things can be true: OpenAI bringing in METR/Redwood was laudable and went well beyond what’s required or what’s been done before. I’m grateful OpenAI did this. Also: the scope was totally unacceptably narrow, just wildly inadequate for the scientific inquiry that is needed.
