Last spring, while encampments were sprouting everywhere, including on my own campus, an editor forced me to cut a couple paragraphs from a book review I was writing. The book's about the War on Terror, and the cut paragraphs mentioned universities. Here's the key part.

Universities threaten to become the next War on Terror front, and many university leaders are welcoming the opportunity. All it will take is one ambitious prosecutor to use the infrastructure of the material support statute to transform idealistic—and correct—college students into accused terrorists. Senator Marsha Blackburn claims student protesters have “promoted terrorism” and should be added to a watch list; Senator Marco Rubio demands that student visas be revoked from international students “acting on pro-terrorist views”—“No questions asked”; the Republican chair of the House Homeland Security Committee requested that the FBI engage in surveillance of college students for supporting terrorist organizations.
