good point re jobless claims. reminds me how as matt desmond has noted: ppl think of welfare doles soaking up taxpayer $ but in there's actually much more nominal $ in folks who qualify for welfare/UI etc forgoing it out of pride or wanting to avoid frustrating red-tape paperwork

@talmonsmith Wonder how much is states making it tougher to be eligibility for UI... looks like there were clear downshifts in take-up in the early 80s and then again in the early 00s
