There have been interesting developments around Svalbard, culminating, for the moment, in Norway seizing the Russian ship Professor Molchanov, employed in the transport of supplies to Barentsburg. That this comes as Operation Atlantic City unfolds near Jan Mayen is no coincidence. Norway is very ready to make Svalbard untenable for Russian habitation - Barentsburg is already a bleak existence, compared to Longyearbyen.
