To be fair, viral tweets full of convenient partisan lies and conspiracies were the currency of Twitter before Musk bought it. Musk just dropped the pretense of caring, which is probably for the best.

The extent to which link-deboosting has destroyed twitter as a useful place to find information cannot be overstated. You just tweet whatever and since nothing has a link anymore people don’t even TRY to verify if nonsense is true before smashing that like button.
