It's useful to unpack how this excuse for antisemitism works. The argument is that when an antisemite conflates Jews outside Israel with Jews in Israel, and targets the former over the acts of the latter, it's really *the Jews* who made him do that because they're the ones who conflated the two. This is not how agency works, but set that aside. In reality, non-Jewish bigots conflated Jews outside the Middle East with Jews in the Middle East long before Israel existed. For centuries, European countries abused, expelled, and murdered Jews over the alleged acts of completely different Jews in the Middle East—namely, killing Jesus. As even a cursory understanding of history and power dynamics reveals, the frames through which Jews are viewed have never been determined by 0.2% of the world that is Jewish, but by the 99.8% that is not. What Jews say or think about themselves, for better and worse, has little to do with it. Bigots throughout history have treated minorities this way, blaming any member of the group for anything else another member might have done. It's why Muslims in America got harassed after 9/11. Progressives are supposed to know this is wrong, but when it happens to Jews, some pervert history and morality to say that they had it coming.
