This was standard practice at Vox Media sites for years! We had a proprietary CMS, Chorus, that was in some ways better than Google Docs (the industry norm). We stopped using it after it became cost ineffective to maintain.

Just saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 and I cannot accurately describe the horror of watching Anne Hathaway type her stories DIRECTLY INTO THE CMS.
