Moscow has promised a response to Germany’s decision to close the Russian House in Berlin and Russia’s Consulate General in Bonn. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Berlin of using the Leipzig airport drone incident as a pretext, saying the Russian House had long irritated the German authorities and that Moscow would respond to all anti-Russian measures taken by Germany.

Germany has formally accused Russia of responsibility for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4. In response, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced that the Russian Consulate General in Bonn will be closed and the agreement governing the Russian House in Berlin will be terminated, while the Russian ambassador has also been summoned. Germany will also tighten entry controls on Russian citizens and push for stronger EU sanctions. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said police investigations and intelligence findings led the government to conclude that Russia was responsible for the attempted attack.
