Can I just add: it's completely OK and understandable to be angry at Canada for what we've done to ourselves for the last 10 years. It's something else to let that resentment curdle into loyalty to the current U.S. administration. That doesn't get us out of the spiral.

I'm of the view that we were right to walk away from negotiations and that we have to impose counter tariffs. But there are legitimate and good reasons to disagree with these positions and good arguments against, especially I think on the cost to Canadians of imposing counter tariffs that increase costs for Canadians at a time when they are already struggling. We should be able to have these debates seriously and honestly and not get name calling and accusing anyone who disagrees of disloyalty. There are absolutely people out there who are choosing to side with a foreign president attacking us, but that is not the same as legitimate disagreement over negotiations or counter tariffs.
