While the US may have the right to deny anyone who sells or buys lranian oil, access to its financial system, Iran and China also have a right to trade with each other. Their trade is neither a violation of Iranian or Chinese law, or a transgression on international law. It is simply contrary to what Washington demands. So, China is not obligated to move in any sense, it only moves according to its long-term best interests.

Comfotable enough? I’d say such desperate measure proves just how uncomfortable China is this time, which also proves that Trump is hitting where it hurts most. And the burden is not on the US to “choose”, but on the firms to “choose”, which is why I said decoupling is coming.
