Always important to remember that the darkest blue and red spots still hold a decent chunk of voters from the other party and if those voters are activated they can overwhelm weak turnout from the party w/the numbers advantage.

Crucial emerging factor in midterms: Even in red areas, strong disapproval of Trump is vastly outweighing strong approval of him. This is a key reason the map is expanding into redder areas.
